AIVO members visit to the Neuroscience Center of Excellence, LSU Health

Last April 24th, AIVO members that attended ARVO 2023 Annual Meeting were invited by Drs. Nicolas and Haydee Bazan to visit the Neuroscience Center of Excellence at the Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine. Investigators, doctoral and postdoctoral fellows from different regions of Argentina were able to share their research goals and future projects with Drs. Nicolas and Haydee Bazan, and with the members of their lab, in a very nice and fruitful meeting.

After visiting the laboratories, Dr. Melina Mateos (INIBIBB-UNS-CONICET, Secretary of AIVO) presented a seminar on her work in the Neuroscience series at LSU Health New Orleans, followed by the Dean’s Award Lecture presented by Dr. Miriam Kolko (University of Copenhagen, Denmark) and the Chancellor’s Award Lecture by Dr. Steven J. Fliesler (University at Buffalo, Buffalo, New York, USA). Dr. Mateos received a recognition from Dr. Nicolas Bazan for her contribution to the understanding of cell signaling in the retina and Dr. María Cecilia Sánchez (DBC-CIBICI (CONICET), FCQ, UNC, President of AIVO) was also recognized for her outstanding academic leadership of AIVO and her scientific contribution to visual science. Finally, on behalf of AIVO, Dr. M. Cecilia Sánchez gave gifts to Dr. Bazan in gratitude for his support and commitment to AIVO.
